Slaves of the Mastery - William Nicholson
by Zia ~ July 6th, 2005. Filed under: Books. The second book of The Wind on Fire Trilogy, I placed this on hold at the library months ago. It came last week, and I devoured it in one sitting. Five years after Kestrel and Bowman, the indomitable twins, free their people of the Morah (or evil power), the Manth are now enslaved. Kestrel and Bowman become separated, but they each fight to free their people–and in doing so, face their respective destinies.
I’m not in the kiddie lit phase I was a few months ago (though this could change with the next Harry Potter), but I thoroughly enjoyed this. This is not just children’s literature; it’s intelligent children’s literature. The simplicity of Nicholson’s prose is deceptive, because his ideas and imagination are anything but.
Now to read the final book in the trilogy…
