What a strange little book. Although it’s not particularly little, come to think of it, and it’s filled with sharp, cutting insights into the states of unhappy marriages and dysfunctional families.
Since visiting the “ancestral pile” of Egypt Hill as a teenager, Michael has always been enthralled by the Hanbury family. After he has married and begotten a son, he escapes to visit his old school chum, and realizes that the Hanburys are just as–if not more–strange than the people he knows. In all seriousness, this novel plunges one into a completely different world. Recommend.
