More Framed Prints
by Zia ~ November 15th, 2006. Filed under: Art.Once again proving I am out of control, here are three prints I just had framed. BTW, I wasn’t sure if the Toshi Yoshida was pencil signed; it is.
Mom also sent me this Sekino bijin-ja for my birthday. Apparently, it was my grandfather’s favorite print. Hmmm, wonder why …
Also, Steve got me all sorts of great gifts for my birthday, but by far the best was Helen Merritt’s Guide to Modern Japanese Woodblock Prints. I am thrilled with it. On the other hand, you know you’re getting old and boring when you start requesting reference materials for gifts.

How do you know what all your presents are? It’s not your birthday…

I adore Japanese prints. Yours are beautiful. I have an original Hirisada (not great condition, alas, but thrilling nevertheless) and a set of Hiroshiga (from WW2, not originally pulled from him). And I bought a more contemporary (well, circa 1924) one in London recently.
That’s pretty funny about your grandfather’s favorite print.

Yeah, and my mother’s husband didn’t want to give it up, and my boyfriend loves it too. Isn’t that funny? The prints I collect tend to be 20th century shin hanga and sosaku hanga prints (landscape and “creative” prints, respectively). I love the older prints too, but don’t know much about them. What is the 1924 print you just bought?

So you already told me you’d forgive me. I forgot, because I was so anxious about my test. I fully intend on taking you to lunch and celebrating, however. I’m very glad that you are here!!!
