Eragon (the movie)

Oh no! Every year we go to a movie for new year’s eve on “ultra screen” and thought this would be the one, even though my husband wasn’t particularly thrilled with the book (as he put it, it’s like a person with a fifteen-year-old’s understanding of character and story wrote the book…oh, he was fifteen? Okay.). No good, huh?

It’s pretty impressive for a 15-year old, or however old he was when he wrote it. Alas, that doesn’t mean it was any good.
Your husband’s assessment is right on. The only good thing about the movie is Jeremy Irons. Everything else was pretty awful.

I wanted to see it, but heard of the awfulness just in time. We opted for Night at the Museum on Saturday (great) and Happy Feet on Monday (decent, but eh).

For our part, we rented so many movies off Cinemanow that my credit card company got suspicious and my card stopped working. Now THAT’s pathetic.
Do you know when the His Dark Materials movie is coming out — the Pullman one? I can’t remember the title of the first book …

Hey, Zia:
IMDB.com gives Dec. 7, 2007, as the US release date for “His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass.” Can I wait a whole year? No, especially since Daniel Craig (the new, spectacular Bond) is in it.

Despite all the rude comments I thought it was such an awsome movie and book eregon + murtagh were really cute

Nonanon,
I can’t wait either. I heard that Pullman wrote the script, and was actively involved in the movie. Normally, I love to hate movie adaptations, but I think this one might actually be a winner.
Jiki,
To each her own! I’m glad you liked it.
