TV Sucks.

“You have to watch Rome,” our neighbor Geoff told us. “It’s amazing.” So Steve and I got sucked into the first season of Rome, and we loved it. We had a routine: a couple of nights a week, we’d hot tub, then get in bed with my old laptop (we don’t have a TV) and a Rome DVD from Blockbuster. Then we ran out of Rome, and we were sad.

“You like Rome?” a coworker asked Steve. “You’ve got to try Deadwood.” So then we got sucked into the world of Deadwood, seasons one and two. Steve started raving about how we needed a TV and cable. It ended, and we were bummed. We’ve tried other shows, but nothing is very good. I think we lucked out on those two shows, but it all goes to show just how awful most television is.

TV does suck, and you did get lucky. We used to have three televisions and two TiVos and gave them up when we moved to SF. Haven’t missed them a bit. I rent good series on DVD and can’t imagine waiting a week between episodes now.

You like Rome and Deadwood? You’ve got to try The Wire. :-)

The Wire, okay. thanks for the suggestion!

Don’t know if you like cop shows, but The Shield is the best one out there. Also, they made This American Life from NPR into 6 half-hour shows on Showtime, which are excellent. Don’t know if they are available on the website, but they might be. Which did you like better, Rome or Deadwood?

I liked Rome better. Deadwood was good too, though, and I thought that, oh what was his name, the Gem owner, MADE the show. The sheriff dude bugged the shit out of me.

Oh, Rome. I LOVED Rome. As soon as I hear the second series is coming out on DVD, I’ll be counting down the days. Also, have you tried the BBC series “Hustle” (an action comedy) or “MI-5″ (spy drama)? They’re AWESOME. And MI-5 is up to four seasons so it would take you longer to work your way through it!

Thee are two shows I think you’d like. We watched both seasons of Weeds and then the first season of Big Love. We got addicted to both and then were sad when they were over and there was nothing that you could count on to be good on T.V. at all.
